I have always wondered why it is that I cannot lose weight as much as I want. I’ve been thinking on this for awhile, and I finally figured out why.
I always think to myself “I want to lose weight so I can look better, so I can be healthier” but I have never thought that maybe I should focus on what my body needs and not what I want. Our bodies will tell us what we need to do, they will tell us if we need water, what exercises are the best, what food should be great for us. Have you ever wondered maybe why is it that your stomach gets upset when you eat fast food sometimes? It’s all that grease, our bodies are saying “hey, quit giving me bad crappy things” and maybe we should listen.
Losing weight is not about looking better, it’s about being better. We need to stop and think about what we need, we are told running is the best way to go. If you can’t run, go walking! That’s great advice, a great way to start, but what if your knees are weak? Maybe you should try sit ups for awhile, try to get your body to be healthy enough to do what we want to do, and what we need to do.
Your mental health is not only about being crazy or depressed, it’s also about what you think about yourself. When people say that when you eat better you feel better, I don’t think they mean you physically feel better(although the we do!), it’s more that you’re happier. I myself am not only sad because I hate how I look, I believe I am sad because my body is sad for how I treat it. I’ve tried so many times to force myself to lose weight, when I should’ve been listening to what my body has been so desperately been wanting.
So instead of trying to change our life choices, we need to change our habits. Not only our eating habits, but our listening habits. Listen to what your body wants and needs, don’t listen to your cravings. Don’t give in, stay strong and do what is best for your body and your mind.
